As a nice
start to the summer, Vax and Alex head to Genghis Grill for some
cocktails. Unfortunately, they do not
currently have happy hour specials, but they do have very good mixed
drinks for a 92 degree day. We sat at
the bar, which was empty, but that was fine with us. The bartender greeted us right away and was
very timely in service. Vax ordered a
Mongolian Mule which is a play on a Moscow Mule. It reminded us more of a Mint Julep, due to
the sweetness, but it was tasty. Alex
decided to have a Flaming Arrow which had pineapple vodka and fireball whisky,
among other ingredients. The sour mix
was a little overpowering, but overall it was a good drink. For round two, Vax went with the Dragon Fruit
Sunrise, which was better than the mule.
Alex played it safe with a Blue Dragon, which she has had on a few
occasions. Alex likes her fruity coconut
rum drinks. At between $6 and $7.50, it’s
a little bit of a treat, so this is a place to save for a special
occasion.
Vax and Alex are two teachers in Southern Maryland who are always on the lookout for a happy hour at a reasonable price. It is our mission to find the best deals and atmosphere for drinks with a friend after work. We meet once a week at different locations while we search for the best southern Maryland happy hour spots.

Tequila Grill
Vax and Alex
decided to switch it up and try a place in St. Mary’s County this week. We have heard about the Tequila Grille’s
Happy Hour Specials, and decided to give it a go. The Happy Hour specials include $1 off drafts
on a decent variety of beers. If you are
a craft beer fan, you will be disappointed, but if you’re like us, and you
enjoy a good ole Dos Equis Amber, you will be satisfied. The service was great and the décor is
gorgeous. We sat at the Cantina and were
the only ones there, but we’re not looking for company other than
ourselves. It was a Wednesday, after
all.
A generous
basket of chips were immediately served to us, along with homemade salsa and a
white dip. The salsa had a good fresh
taste with the right amount of heat. The
white sauce reminded us of a ranch with a little extra spice.
After the
beers, we decided to try their “homemade” sangria. We watched the server pour from a “Two
Guitars” bottle. Overall, we liked this
place, but the authenticity is questionable.

Galazio’s
Galazio’s is
a little Greek place right off of 301 in LaPlata. It took over an old Pizza Hut building and it
looked interesting. We were also
interested because it is a family-owned operation. We sat at the bar and were the only ones in
the restaurant on a Tuesday afternoon.
We were pleased to find out that the happy hour special for Tuesdays
were $1.50 drafts. The selection was
so-so and the bar tender wasn’t very knowledgeable regarding their selection of
beers. The glasses were chilled (a
definite plus), but the mugs were 10 ounces.
The atmosphere was pleasant and family-friendly, however the service
could be improved. There were times in
which we were ignored for extended periods.
We returned a few times after our first encounter, but have stopped
going there since they discontinued their specials for happy hour. You can check this one off the list until
they cater more to happy hour.
